Wedding Photography
is where a lot of photographers get their start in the
photography business. It usually starts out as a serious hobby
appreciated by family and friends and then someone asks you to
photograph their wedding. You usually do this as a gift or the
couple pay for your expenses and you gain experience but don't
make much money. Eventually you start to charge more and make a
small profit, until you get some formal training in marketing
and sales from one of the many professional organizations. Now
you have experience and an idea on how to price your
photography and your on your way. There is a great need for
good wedding photographers and you can make a great income
either full time or as a supplement to your full time job. A
good wedding photographer is also the director of many of the
activities taking place during the wedding day. You are usually
one of the first people to come in contact with the bride as
soon as she is ready, so you need to be a calming
influence because she will be nervous but you also have to take
charge so things stay on schedule. After you have taken your
photographs at her house you need to coordinate and keep things
moving at the location that the ceremony is going to be held.
Then you need to get everyone to the location where formal
photographs are to be taken and keep things moving in a timely
manner while maintaining your photographic creativity. When all
formal photographs have been taken its time to get the bride
and groom into the reception area so they may party and greet
their guests. At this point the hardest work is done and you
will just record the reception and photograph the candid
opportunities until it is time for the bride and groom to leave
for their honeymoon. So as you can see a wedding photographer
must wear may hats and is important in keeping things organized
and on schedule as well as creating beautiful photographs.
